A typical roof replacement with our team at Weathershed Roofing will involve several steps:
Inspection and Quote: Our roofing contractor will first inspect your roof to assess the damage and determine the scope of work needed. They will then provide you with a detailed quote that outlines the materials, labor, and timeline for the project.
Permitting: In most Michigan municipalities, you'll need to obtain a permit before the roof replacement can begin. Our team can typically handle this for you.
Roof Removal: The old roof will be carefully removed. Depending on the material and condition of the old roof, it may be recycled or disposed of in a landfill.
Underlayment Installation: A new underlayment, a water-resistant barrier, will be installed on the roof deck. We typically add 6ft of ice and water shield for our climate here in Northern Michigan. This is above code.
New Roof Installation: The new roofing material will be installed according to the manufacturer's specifications. Asphalt shingles are the most common roofing material in Michigan, but other options like metal or slate are also available. Flashing and Ventilation: Flashing will be installed around roof penetrations like chimneys and vents to prevent leaks. Roof vents will also be installed to allow proper ventilation in the attic space.
Cleanup and Inspection: Once the new roof is installed, our team members will clean up the debris from the job site. They will then conduct a final inspection to ensure that the roof is installed correctly and meets all building codes.
Here are some additional things to keep in mind:
- Roof Material Selection: The type of roofing material you choose will impact the cost and longevity of your new roof. Asphalt shingles are the most affordable option, but they also have the shortest lifespan. Metal roofs are more expensive but can last for several decades. Weathershed Roofing only uses the best materials with the best warrantees!
- Roof Tear-Off vs. Re-Roofing: In some cases, it may be possible to install a new roof over the existing one. This is called a re-roof. However, this is not always advisable and may not be up to code. A qualified roofing contractor can advise you on the best course of action for your specific situation. We avoid Re-Roofing at Weathershed as this is not in best practices.
